WHY POETRY?
Poetry has become my refuge, my solace, and my voice in this ever-changing world. I found inspiration in the heartfelt verses of Honey, Courtney Peppernell's The Way Back Home, the evocative Dropbear by Evelyn Aruluen, and the imagist poetry of Ezra Pound. Alongside these, I immersed myself in the captivating world of The Last Hours Trilogy by Cassandra Clare and sought refuge in the soul-stirring lyrics of Taylor Swift.

As a twenty-something-year-old with a job, a house, and everything society deemed essential for success, I discovered the futility of it all. The words of these writers offered a sanctuary that taught me to reevaluate what truly matters, to embrace my mistakes and grow from them, and to escape into a realm where shame has no place. They reminded me that we are all human, and it is okay to bear our pain openly.

Growing up, I was taught to reciprocate kindness with kindness and to be grateful for any gifts received. Writing poetry has become my heartfelt thank you to the world. It has become my guiding light in a dark tunnel, offering me a safe place to share my human experiences with the world, in the hopes of touching others just as Kaur and Peppernell's poetry touched me.

Through my words, I seek to give others moments of peace, reassurance, and answers to the most bewildering questions. Poetry has gifted me hope, and now, it is my turn to pay it forward. I yearn to use my verses to help others find the answers they seek, to let them know they are not alone, and to unveil their true selves hidden beneath societal facades. In this shared journey of vulnerability, I aspire to make a difference, to provide comfort, and to help others feel seen, just as I have felt seen through the power of poetry.

I recently self-published a collection of poems and photographs that speak a written truth.
Sometimes even the strongest fall,
a violent wind sends them tumbling.
A need for nights under a star lit sky,
the glowing sun placing it's fingers
against their cheek,
re-channeling growth to their roots.

Within these carefully crafted verses, I sought to capture the intricate journey of growing up, chronicling the trials and tribulations faced by young adolescents as they ascend to adulthood. The metaphorical comparisons serve as a guiding thread throughout the collection, weaving tales of transformation and self-discovery that resonate deeply with readers of all ages.
'Where You Lead' stands as a poetic witness to the universal struggles of youth, exploring themes of resilience, identity, and the ever-present search for meaning. Each poem forms a beautifully painted portrait, reflecting the hues of emotion and experience that colour the canvas of adolescence. Through the poignant verses, I endeavoured to create a tapestry of shared experiences, providing solace and understanding to those who have traversed the path of youth.
